??Wet your hair with lukewarm water to open your hair cuticles (unless it is a Dry Shampoo). Place a quarter sized amount of shampoo in the palm of your hands. Work up a good lather in your hands. Apply the shampoo to the back of your scalp and work your way forward vigorously in a massage motion for thirty seconds not forgetting the side burn area. (In grooming, many people neglect the back of their hair.) Rinse your hair with lukewarm water for thirty seconds.

??Should you repeat? If your hair is oily, you can repeat the process above. Keep in mind that a shampoo will lather up better the second time around; however, shampoos do not need to generate lather in order to be effective.

??Always follow up a shampoo with a conditioner or a deep conditioner. Remember, shampoo is for your scalp and conditioner is for your hair. Start at the end of your hair when you condition and work your way down the hair shaft to the roots. Instead of massaging it in, applying your conditioner in one direction (for example, downward motion by tipping your head) will prevent tangles. Rinsing with cold water after your conditioner will close your cuticles and make your hair shiny. You can also follow up the conditioner with a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair shafts closed.
